Mentorship

The mentoring program is provided for HKU start-up companies (iDendron hosted and TSSSU companies) under iDendron Incubation Program (iIP) to facilitate and optimize their business strategy and development.

 

How does it work?

 

  • All mentees are required to attend the Mentor Days. You should review mentor profiles and let us know your preference in advance.
  • Your preference will be taken into account in the matching process.
  • You can submit request(s) for all mentors as shown below. Mentors will review requests and choose to accept or decline the mentorship.

Cohort 1

SC Kim |Technology Transfer Office

Dr Kim is currently the Director of Technology Transfer Office, Managing Director of Versitech Limited, Associate Director of Knowledge Exchange Office and a Member of University Research Committee of HKU. He is in charge of the HKU's intellectual property management, innovation and entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization activities.

Brian Tang | LITE@HKU

Brian W Tang is an innovator, educator and ecosystem builder who has worked in the confluence of law, technology and finance in New York, Silicon Valley, Australia and Hong Kong. After a career at Wall Street law firm Sullivan & Cromwell and global investment bank Credit Suisse, Brian founded ACMI, he is also the founding executive director of LITE Lab@HKU and founder of Young Makers & ChangeMakers.

Joseph Chan| Faculty of Business and Economics

Joseph is the Programme Lead of Entrepreneurship, Design and Innovation at FBE and a professional architect from the U.K. with projects in Europe, Middle-East, India, Thailand, Hong Kong and China. Joseph is also an educator who inspires the students, across different levels and disciplines, to be creative. The students would use the design thinking to solve business, design, social and technical problems – they are aspired to be innovative and to develop their own authentic style.

Rocky Law | Faculty of Science

Before joining HKU, Dr. Rocky Law was the Associate Director of TTC and the Founding Director of Entrepreneurship Center at HKUST. He was also the Director of Praxis Green Consulting Limited. Dr. Law provided advisory and coaching services to startup companies in the areas of IP protection, technology or product development strategy, marketing strategy, and assisted them in fund raising activities in the PRD region. Dr Law is also the founding members of the Hong Kong Business Angel Network (HKBAN),

Henry Lau | Faculty of Engineering

Henry is an Associate Dean (innovation) in the Engineering Faculty and an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Henry graduated from the University of Oxford with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science and a DPhil in Robotics. Henry’s research interest includes virtual reality technology, artificial intelligence and robotics.

Ryan Cheung | PressLogic

Ryan is the CEO & Founder of PressLogic, a Hong Kong-based technology startup media company, started with a proprietary AI system that uses data analytics to predict the topics that will trend on social media among specific groups. Within a couple of years, PressLogic has grown and expanded into a diversified group of businesses that include MediaLens, BeautyBee, and Digital Media & Content Marketing, boasting operations in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Korea and Malaysia. Accumulating over 10 million followers and more than 800 million monthly impressions, PressLogic has successfully raised its Series A+ funding of USD10 million from Meitu.

Roy Law | ZEROZONE

Mr. Roy Law is a serial entrepreneur and Investor with more than 20 years of experience in Information Technology. Graduated from HKUST in Mechanical Engineering and University of London in Computing & Information System, Roy was the first engineer of JobsDB, Asia-Pacific’s biggest recruitment portal which was acquired for over HK$2.8 billion in 2010. Roy reinvested all of his dividend to fund his own first startup AppTask in the same year.

Miles Wen | Fano Labs

Keith Li | Innopage

Keith is the co-founder and CEO of Innopage Limited, a mobile applications development startup. Since 2010, Keith had led Innopage to receive multiple industry awards for its innovative technology and products. Keith is also a part-time lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University, Executive Committee Member of Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (HKWTIA), and was elected as 2016 Election Committee (IT Subsector) for HKSAR.

Timothy Ma | 平安鐘

Timothy Ma is the Vice-Chairman of General Chamber of Social Enterprise, Founding Member of Social Entrepreneur Forum HK, as well as a Co-opted Member of SIE Fund of HKSAR. He is also a registered social worker and fellow of certified risk planner, teaching professor of ICRM and visiting lecturer of CUHK and HKU. He was the founding executive director of Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, the Executive Director of Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation, Dept. of Public Policy of The City Univ. of Hong Kong, helped the univ. to build up new Social Innovation projects and courses for the students.

Joe Chan | Star Properties

Joe is the founder and CEO of Galaxy Asset Management, Star Properties and Metro Lifestyle Group. He has over 20 years of experience in management, strategic planning, business strategies and corporate development. He founded a series of companies and enjoy entrepreneurial success in various industries such as coworking space, serviced apartment, wine storage, mini storage and F & B outlets.

YT Tsoi | HB Ventures

YT is the Founding and Managing Partner of HB Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on early stage technology companies in Greater China and Southeast Asia. Prior to the founding HB Ventures, he served as the CFO at China South City Holdings (Tencent is the 2nd largest shareholder). He also worked across investment banking industry for over 15 years, latest the Head of Hong Kong Corporate Finance at J.P. Morgan.

Yina Chan | Saltagen Ventures

Yina is the Associate Director of Saltagem Ventures. She is experienced in working with local corporates and overseas startups, building bridges that help startups to maneuver the strategies of entering local markets and overcome language and cultural barriers. Apart from investment and portfolio management, she also leads fund structuring and operates Checkerboard program.

Raymond Yip | Zeroth.ai

Raymond is a Partner at Zeroth.AI and a Venture Partner at XGD Ventures. He was a co-founder & CEO of Clickful, an online advertising solution for businesses in Asia, and a co-founder & CEO of Shopline, a startup that was accelerated by 500 Startups in Silicon Valley. He is also a mentor at Entrepreneur First and Founder Institute advising teams on entrepreneurship, fundraising and team building.

Roland Yau | Cocoon Ignite Venture

Alexander Chan | The Mills Fabrica

Alexander Chan started out as a consultant and later ventured into private equity, working with the likes of Bain & Company and Hillhouse Capital. At The Mills he focuses on early-stage investments (Fabrica Fund) and assists with incubation support and government/policy-related affairs. He is also an occasional contributor to publications including the SCMP where he writes about issues including innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability.

Louis Lo | Beyond Ventures

Louis is an Investment Manager at Beyond Ventures, where he is closely involved in research, deal execution and portfolio management. He executed 5 investments across biotechnology, semiconductor and robotics sectors. Before joining Beyond Ventures, Louis worked in Silverhorn Investment Advisors where he assisted the Investment Director in buy-side research and portfolio management.

Garrick Lau | New World Development

Being a Gen-Y and a father of two children, Garrick is aspired to bring happiness and fulfillment to the future generations. He believes it is fundamental for every individual and every business to do good and create shared values for the community. His experience covers social innovation, youth development, change management and intrapreneurship, content curation, hospitality and real estate asset management, talent acquisition and employer branding.

Frederick Ng | Glints

Fred is currently a Market Launcher at Glints, responsible for leading Glints’ expansion into HK. Prior to Glints, Fred was an investor at Click Ventures, a leading early stage VC in HK investing in US and Asia technology startups, and was a Fellow at Fresco Capital, a global seed fund investing in Healthcare, Edtech and Future of Work related startups. Before his startup life, Fred had a brief stint in finance with Goldman Sachs Asset Management as an Institutional Sales to Hong Kong and Taiwan large corporations.

Jeff Hui | Young Founders School

Jeff is the COO of Young Founders School, a technology-focused educational non-profit organization. He co-founded Affix Group in 2015 as a mentor matching platform for local college students, organized over 20 matching events. He is skilled in HR, Microsoft Word, Public Speaking, Management, and Swift. He has a strong entrepreneurship professional background from both in the US and HK.

Alyssa Chen | AppWorks

Alyssa is the head of AppWorks Accelerator. She interned at AppWorks for a year during university. After graduation, Alyssa started her career running business development and public relations for emerging artists and designers at Huashan 1914, Taiwan’s pioneering cultural creative park. In 2016, she returned to AppWorks as an Analyst and has contributed greatly before eventually becoming an Associate in 2019.

Felix Wong | Techstars

Felix is the Community Manager of Greater China at Techstars and the Growth Manager at WHub. He has facilitated over 50 Techstars Startup Programs regionally, including Startup Weekend, corporate innovation program and regional summit. He co-founded and led 3 fast-growing tech startups. He was leading primary growth strategy at The Wave and Abtitu, executed a hybrid growth model in data analytics, digital content, web optimization, user acquisition and UI/ UX design.

Christian Secci | Pakpobox

Christian is the Co-founder and CEO of Pakpobox. For the past decade, Christian has been responsible for developing businesses in more than 20 countries spanning four continents, where he gained rich experience in working in culturally-diverse environments and cooperating with people from all over the world. Prior to joining Pakpobox, he started a business venture in Asia with InPost, an exciting journey intersecting three different industries: e-commerce, logistics, and retail.

Adrian Lai | Liquefy

Adrian is the CEO of Liquefy, a technology platform that enables tokenization of illiquid assets such as real estate, funds and other assets using blockchain technology. Liquefy has raised more than 3mil USD since late 2018. Adrian is a columnist at SCMP with particular focus on blockchain technology. He has been a commentator for Wall Street Journal, CNN, Bloomberg Businessweek and several digital asset specific medias on the digital asset landscape.

Wilson Chan | buyandship

Wilson is the Co-founder and CEO of buyandship, a cross-border e-commerce shipping services company based in Hong Kong. Buyandship has secured US$2.2 million in pre-Series B funding round led by existing investor Infinity Venture Partners in June 2019. Prior to starting his own business, Wilson worked in private equity and management consulting in the Hong Kong and Japan. He was focusing on investments and due diligence in multiple sectors ranging from semiconductors to natural resources.

Edwin Wong | Cloudbreakr

Edwin is the CEO of Cloudbreakr, an AI powered influencer marketing platform. He has focused on influencer marketing & analytics for years, with an aim to empower pioneers and brands to share the stories that influence people. With less than 3 years, he works with the team to expand the company from Hong Kong to Malaysia, and provide the software to over 10,000 marketers. The analytics and marketing solution now cover more than 7 Asia countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Deniz Tekerek| Portier Technologies

Deniz is the co-founder and CEO of Portier Technologies, a travel technology startup that actions some of the world's richest data insights on traveller behaviour. His company has previously secured funding from the likes of 500 Startups, SOSV and Plug and Play, and is currently focused on growing the business across South East Asia and Europe. Deniz has extensive experience in cross-border businesses, and previously founded and ran an e-commerce business in the UK.

Kitti is the Principal of HB Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on early stage technology companies in Greater China and Southeast Asia. Prior to joining HB Ventures, he was the Former Head of Bangkok Bank overseas branches in Beijing, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Hanoi. He has over 20 years of experience in corporate finance, M&A, and commercial banking.

Leo Chiu | Click Ventures

Leo Chiu is the Chief Technology Partner at Click Ventures. He was a core contributor at his last 4 big data/AI startups serving in the role of CTO or first engineer where he demonstrated his skills in AI and big data. All these startups led to successful IPOs or M&A exits with a combined market valuation of over US$1B.

Jack Kong | Beyond Ventures

Jack is a venture partner in Beyond Ventures, a mentor / venture partner in HKX, and supporting a family office in monitoring its USD400mil venture capital portfolio. Prior to joining Beyond Ventures, he was the Finance Manager of Sequoia Capital and the Investment Manager of Tencent's M&A department. He has invested about 30 companies so far and has relatively more experience in fin-tech, e-commerce, and AI companies.

Drey Ng | BlackHorse Group

Drey Ng is the Partner and Head of Research of BlackHorse Ventures (BHV), an investment arm focusing on Digital Security infrastructure. Prior to BHV, he was the Head of Research of Orichal Partners, one of the multi-strategy cryptocurrency investment and blockchain advisory firms in Asia. Drey led the blockchain project investments and collaborations with prominent projects such as Muzika, i-House Token and MagnaChain etc.

Frederick Yung | Smart Start

Frederick is the founder of Smart Start, a company in start-up training and consultancy. He headed the Business Incubation Programme of HK Science and Technology Parks Corporation and had incubated more than 300 technology and design start-ups and reviewed over 1,000 business plans. He was also a Visiting Assistant Professor of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China Business School and the Honourary Trainer of the Hong Kong Business Angel Network.
